Universität Münster Musikhochschule Orchestra Appoints New Artistic Director and Conductor

Conductor Marlon Daniel will lead the ensemble

 

Conductor Marlon Daniel has been named the new Artistic Director and Conductor of the orchestra at the Universität Münster Musikhochschule (MHS). The appointment comes as part of a revitalization of the MHS orchestra, which is now in its 100th year.

Daniel will lead the ensemble in two concerts in June 2024, which will feature works by Beethoven, Dvořák, Smetana, and Strauss.

Presently, he is the Artistic and Music Director of the Festival International de Musique Saint-Georges, Music Director of Ensemble du Monde (chamber orchestra), Founder and Music Director of ACYO (All-Caribbean Youth Orchestra), and Associate Conductor of Florida Grand Opera.

A laureate of the 2018 Bucharest Symphony Orchestra International Conducting Competition, Marlon Daniel has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the world, from New York’s Carnegie Hall to Prague’s Rudolfinum.

Previously, he has served as Associate Conductor of the Praga Sinfonietta, Principal Guest Conductor of the Pazardzhik Symphony Orchestra, and the inaugural Music Director for the Colour of Music Festival. In addition, he has been a guest lecturer with Tafelmusik, Opera America, Lunigiana International Music Festival, and at Columbia and Yale Universities.

Daniel studied at the Manhattan School of Music and the Prague Academy. His conducting teachers have included Jiří Bělohlávek, David Gilbert, Tomáš Koutník, Miriam Němcová and Jorma Panula. He has also received guidance from Sir Simon Rattle at the Berliner Philharmonie and Iván Fischer at the Beethovenfest Bonn.
