Prizes Awarded at USA's Stulberg 2020 Online String Competition

18-year-old South Korean-born violinist Dongyoung Jake Shim has been awarded 1st prize at the 2020 Stulberg International String Competition

18-year-old South Korean-born violinist Dongyoung Jake Shim has this week been awarded 1st prize at the 2020 Stulberg International String Competition - in Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States.

A current Dean's scholarship student of Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory, Dongyoung will receive US $6,000 - plus invitations for concerto performances with the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestras and the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra.

 

 

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 16-year-old violinist Yeyeong Jin - and 18-year-old violinist Masha Lakisova.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, this year's 45th Stulberg Competition was moved virtual - with each candidate asked to submit online one movement from a Solo Bach Partita, Sonata or Suite plus one movement from a major Concerto, for assessment.

The 2020 jury comprised: Clive Greensmith, Yura Lee and Cho-Liang Lin.

Founded in 1976, former Stulberg International String Competition prize winners include: Joshua Bell, Soovin Kim, Rachel Barton Pine and Jennifer Koh – and VC Artists Zlatomir Fung, Brannon Cho, Matthew Lipman, Ji-Won Song and Benjamin Beilman.
